This 1940 Play Ball Hank Gowdy presents beautifully with centering that is far superior to most examples from this set. While the surfaces are well-preserved, the grade is primarily limited by the significant rounding on all four corners and the moderate chipping along the edges.
Centering: 9 / 10
Front: The front displays excellent centering with just a very slight horizontal shift toward the left edge. Back: The back centering is nearly perfect, showing great symmetry.
Corners: 3 / 10
Front: All four corners show significant rounding and wear, which is typical for a card of this age. Back: The corners on the reverse show similar softening and rounding as the front.
Edges: 5 / 10
Front: Moderate chipping and shelf wear are visible along all four edges, most notably on the left and right. Back: The edges on the back show consistent wear and slight fraying of the paper stock.
Surface: 8 / 10
Front: The surface is quite clean for the era, showing only natural age-toning and a few minor print specks. Back: The back surface shows mild foxing and toning but remains bright with very sharp, legible text.
