This 1940 Play Ball card features superb centering that far exceeds typical standards for the era. However, the technical grade is heavily restricted by a significant horizontal crease that spans the center of the card. The corners also show advanced rounding and the edges exhibit consistent wear, leading to a final assessment focused on these structural condition issues.

The front displays excellent centering with very minor shift toward the left.
Corners: 3 / 10
Front: All four corners show significant rounding and wear, particularly the Top Right corner which has noticeable softening. Back: The reverse corners show wear and fraying consistent with the front, with no sharp points remaining.
Edges: 5 / 10
Front: Moderate fraying and small nicks are visible along the Top and Left edges. Back: The edges show age-related wear and minor chipping throughout the perimeter.
Surface: 2 / 10
Front: A heavy horizontal crease runs across the center of the card through the player's jersey and background. Back: The primary horizontal crease is visible across the middle of the text block, along with general age-toning.
