This 1940 Play Ball issue is well-centered for its age, but the final grade is primarily determined by the significant rounding of all four corners and the visible chipping along the edges. While the surface shows expected toning, the structural wear places it in the Very Good condition range.

The front centering is excellent, showing a nearly even balance across the top and bottom borders.
Corners: 3 / 10
Front: All four corners exhibit significant rounding and wear, which is characteristic of heavy handling over time. Back: The reverse corners show similar heavy softening and rounding as seen on the front.
Edges: 4 / 10
Front: The edges show consistent wear and small nicks throughout, with the top edge showing the most prominent chipping. Back: The back edges display moderate fraying and chipping, particularly along the left side.
Surface: 5 / 10
Front: The surface displays natural age-toning and a few minor spots, though the central image remains relatively clean. Back: Uniform toning and light surface wear are present on the reverse, consistent with the age of the card stock.
