This vintage 1940 Play Ball issue is remarkably well-centered for the period. However, its overall grade is constrained by significant physical wear, specifically the heavy rounding of all four corners and persistent fraying along the edges. The surface is well-preserved for its age, showing typical toning but no major structural defects like creases.

The front is very well-centered for the era, showing only a slight preference toward the left side.
Corners: 2 / 10
Front: All four corners exhibit significant rounding and heavy whitening consistent with long-term handling and age. Back: The reverse corners show wear that mirrors the front, with noticeable rounding and some fiber exposure at the tips.
Edges: 3 / 10
Front: The edges show moderate to heavy fraying and chipping, particularly evident along the left and bottom borders. Back: Significant shelf wear and minor chipping are visible along the perimeter of the reverse side.
Surface: 4 / 10
Front: The surface displays natural age-toning and minor foxing throughout the image area, though the central photograph remains clear. Back: The reverse shows characteristic yellowing from age and a few small spots of surface staining.
