A GEORGE KELLY from the 1940 PLAY BALL set, card #142a. This is a great addition to any BOSTON BEES collection.
Graded by Mint Condition: 3
This vintage 1940 Play Ball issue is well-centered for the era, particularly on the reverse. However, the overall grade is limited by the soft rounding of the corners and the chipping visible along the edges. The surfaces are remarkably clean and free of any structural damage like creases.
Centering: 7 / 10
The top border is noticeably thicker than the bottom, while horizontal centering is quite good for the era.
Corners: 3 / 10
Front: All four corners show moderate to heavy rounding with visible whitening and fiber wear consistent with its age. Back: The reverse corners mirror the front with significant softening and rounding at every point.
Edges: 4 / 10
Visible chipping and minor fraying are present along all edges, most notably on the bottom edge.
Surface: 6 / 10
The surface has natural age-toning and a few minor dark spots in the background area, but no major creases.
